93+pts, Robert Parker Wine Advocate
A powerful, virile 2011, Gazin reveals a dense ruby/purple color, a big, meaty, earthy richness, lots of coffee, black cherry liqueur and spice notes, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. It will benefit from another 3-4 years of cellaring and should keep for 15+ years.

90pts, Vinous
Medium bright ruby. Sappy aromas of black cherry, blackberry, violet and sassafras. Fresh and juicy, with nicely textured, concentrated flavors of dark berries, bitter chocolate and spices. This solidly structured Pomerol finishes with firm but ripe tannins and lovely floral perfume. Well done.

If you’re looking for aged Bordeaux that’s hitting its stride and ready to open now, today is your day. Holding onto wine is hard (trust us, we have to buy it by the case just so we can enjoy some at the moment, then get distracted and forget we had more for later). Today’s impeccably delicious, WA 93+pt Pomerol is aged to near perfection. A wine to savor now or even hold for a couple more years.

Chateau Gazin has a storied history where it was founded in the 18th century, originally as a hospital, before transforming into a remarkable Chateau. In fact, it neighbors Petrus and L’Evangile! While it had a few stumbles along the way, Gazin is reestablishing itself as one to watch, producing several 90+pt wines the past few years after returning to manual harvesting and more sustainable vineyard practices.

Though overshadowed by the previous two vintages, 2011 is actually a fairly solid year for Bordeaux, returning to a more traditional style despite an earlier start to harvest. The wines, now having aged, are actually quite sought after!

Fermented in cement vats before moving to age for 18 months in oak, 50% of which is new, the result is medium-bodied, yet powerful wine with tannins that are nicely settling after 8+ years of age. Notes of black cherries and stewed plums with hints of game, espresso, dried violets and leather, there’s a lovely floral and spice element leading to a pleasing finish.

It’s not everyday you have the chance to snag a supremely aged right bank Bordeaux that you don’t have to wait a few more years to properly enjoy. This is a stellar wine and one we are so excited to share with our customers. Shipping included on 3+ bottles ($207 a 3-pack). Only 8ish cases available…while you can grab some!

THE STORY TO KNOW

The Chateau Gazin vineyards cover 64.2 acres in a single lot, with 56.8 acres under vines, located on the renowned clay-gravel plateau of Pomerol. The estate can produce up to 100,000 bottles a year. A second AOC Pomerol wine "l’Hospitalet de Gazin", was created in 1986 in order to reserve the best of the harvest for Chateau Gazin.

The grapes are fermented in small cement vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels (50% new) according to the Bordeaux tradition: malolactic fermentation in casks, rackings to separate the fine wine from the lees, fining with egg whites and, if necessary, light filtration.
