Medium ruby red, this wine opens with scents of currants and dried roses, grape pomace and fresh tilled soil. The nose is nuanced with toasty oak imparting a subtle smoked meat character. Flavors of blueberries and blackberries mix with the warmth of vanilla and toasted bread. Silky tannins and striking smoothness. Mouthwatering, lengthy finish trails off with the taste of unsweetened chocolate and cassis.

From Chuck Wagner, Co-Founder of Caymus: For some time now I have imagined making a new wine from a broader stretch of California, places my kids and I never tire of exploring, intrigued by the quality of the fruit they can produce. California has always offered the promise of new beginnings. My earliest family members came to the Napa Valley by wagon train from Bible Grove, Missouri, in 1857.

It is hard to overstate my excitement during the early days when Caymus
Vineyards began as a “mom, pop and son” operation in 1972. About 20
wineries were in operation in the valley, mainly those that had been in
business for many decades. My parents invested their savings in what would
become Caymus Vineyards, and we went to work, pruning vines and
building a winery. Simple times…we ate lunch together, then returned to
work. We were unaware of what lay ahead, but we kept our nose to the
grindstone and eventually things worked out.

Today Napa is still our home and the nucleus of Caymus Vineyards. My folks
are no longer with us, and I now work alongside two of my own kids who have
joined in. I’d like to think some pioneer thinking is still part of us, just in a
different era. And heading down the road of the unknown remains extremely
interesting, if not great fun. There are nooks and crannies of our great state that can also produce delicious Cabernet and merit greater attention and exploration. We are proud to be introducing this multi-vintage California-appellation Cabernet Sauvignon.

One thing that’s very important to me – Bonanza calls back to a previous era
when a glass of good wine with dinner was a simple pleasure. Bonanza aims to
be a smart and gratifying choice, speaking to the enjoyment of everyday
life. You may agree that our biggest fortune is good company, great food and
delicious wine.
