"Good dark red. More red fruits than black on the nose, with a touch of wildness to the aromas of cherry, redcurrant, huckleberry, spices, tobacco leaf and licorice; some sexy purple fruit notes emerged with aeration. Plush, creamy, broad and sweet in the mouth, yet somehow light on its feet (this has the highest pH of these current Cadence releases at 3.7, but the rest of the wines are only slightly lower). Seriously high-quality Cabernet Franc here: dense, savory and refined, with subtle nuances of herbs, tobacco and flowers. Finishes quite broad, with sophisticated tannins and outstanding persistence. Very sexy wine. This and the Camerata were aged in 50% new oak."

"Cabernet Franc (82%) makes up the lion's share of this wine, with the rest Merlot (12%) and Petit Verdot. It's tight as a drum out of the gate. Brooding aromas of black and red currant, scorched earth, flower and herb are followed by focused, fresh, lively fruit flavors supported by highly structured tannins. As is typically the case with this producer, it's much more about the future than the present, with a lot of aging potential in front of it. Best after 2026 with a very long life beyond that."

"A Cabernet Franc blend with 6% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Bel Canto has subtle dark fruit on the nose, with a good concentration of vibrant red cherries and plums over a rocky core. This is a full-bodied and well-balanced wine with fantastic complexity—the dustiness of ripe red fruit and dark fruit is evident on the palate and immediately makes me crave a bite to go with the wine. The oak expression is well-integrated on the finish, which lingers long with an energetic grip of tannins and minerality. Only 300 cases were made, and this bottling is worth a look.”

"Another Cabernet Franc heavy wine, the 2016 Bel Canto Cara Mia Vineyard checks in as 82% Cabernet Franc, 12% Merlot, and the balance Petit Verdot. It offers more mulled cherry and blackberry fruits, plenty of leafy herbs, medium to full-bodied, and a juicy, elegant, spicy style. It doesn't have the density or grandeur of the Cabernet Franc Old Vines, but it’s a juicy, elegant wine that has enough tannins to warrant 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for a decade."
