“Apple, lime and a meadow of flowers and grasses greet the nose, then continue on a buoyant, subtly leesy palate and into a vibrant, brightly juicy finish transparent to stony and alkaline nuances. Forty-some grams of residual sugar are held to a low level of sweetness by nearly 11 grams of acidity, an electrically shocking level by contemporary standards – though, as I was about to find out after tasting a few more Ludes wines, not even close to record-setting at this address.”

“The 2017 Thörnicher Ritsch Riesling Kabinett is clear, intense and multilayered on the spicy-floral, remarkably elegant, mineral and fruity nose. The attack is racy yet finer than in the 2019 feinherb Kabinett. This gives a more balanced and elegant Riesling with remarkable finesse and substance. The finish is seriously long. This is a promising Kabinett even though it tastes rather like a Spätlese. 9.5% alcohol. Tasted from AP 3 18 in October 2020.”

$18, great scores, and a taste explosion for all-summer drinking!

Wow! The first sip of this is like being struck by lightning — your palate jumps up in excitement and will make you want to come back for more almost instantly. So good with Thai food and all manner of spicy goodness!

This is an under-the-radar wine that has a history dating back 400 years. However, it wasn't until the mid-1900s that the estate was established. The estate used to be a part of the "Bernkasteler Ring", which they left in 1993. This "ring" was and still is a highly celebrated group of producers in the Mosel region. The estate was divided up among 11 siblings, leaving Hermann Ludes with next to nothing. Over the decades, he has been working tirelessly to buy back all the parcels. Many of its prized parcels in Thornich are reaching 100 years of age and astonishingly, some are still self-rooted.

We can’t tell you how fast we drained our bottle (the low alcohol is a bonus, too) — utterly delicious...while we have it!
